CMArt Week 12

Wow handed in my last assignment EVER today! Feels good.

Anyway, here is a photo of the final render of my album cover compared to the original:

As you can see I had trouble with my text for the title (still appears hollow and couldnt figure out how to add a glow or colour effects on the title). Also couldnt figure out how to do a smoke-filled room so I used the closes effect I could find to replicate that. Anyway I've animated my clip and added music in Final Cut afterwards. Here is the final render:

CMArt Weeks 9, 10 & 11

So I have been a bit lazy the last few weeks in updating my blog, but that's not to say I haven't worked on my project at all. In week 9 I did research in looking up tutes that would help me to make my album cover look as good as possible, and weeks 10 and 11 I spent building my objects for it.

Here are some screen shots of my project so far:

Electric Chair- Here I used a combination of standard modelling tools and magic bevel to create my chair:

Lightning - made with the use of the magic bevel tool:

Title - I tried to draw this initially, but found it wasn't as easy as I'd thought it be, so I downloaded a free font in the same style and used the text tool to create and then extruded out to give 3d effect:

Screen render of where I am so far:

So basically my project is near completion, all that's left to do its create a smoky looking background (which I have found a good tute to use), animate and design a dvd cover for submission.

If I have time I would like to add my film clip to Final Cut and add music to my animation before submitting my final copy.

CMArt Weeks 7 & 8

Ok so in week 7 i finished my surreal kitchen. I had pretty much created all my appliances for the kitchen, so I added textures on all my items and built the kitchen in Lightwave. All was fine until it came down to rendering where one section of my kitchen would not render properly... And I couldn't figure out how to fix. Oh well, here is my kitchen - night and day versions:

Day
Night

Week 8 we learnt the basics of animation in Lightwave which seems simple enough (same principles apply as Flash for eg.) So I made an animation of a flying fork, but ofcourse with my luck after I exported the video, my fork was nowhere to be seen in the video, so need to keep testing as I may have had a setting wrong or something?

Anyway, I decided to begin drawing an electric chair as per the album cover I proposed I might do for my final piece a few weeks back. I'm still not 100% certain I will go with this idea, though If I cant find anything better to do then I will go with it. Here is where I'd gotten so far:

CMArts Week 6

Today I continued creating objects for my surreal kitchen. They are as follows:

Big knife

Cup

Light (to be added to walls)

Microwave
Toaster
Butter Knife

So basically my kitchen is almost ready to be compiled in Lightwave. All that remains for me to do is to add colour/texture to my objects and figure out how to create windows (for my walls).

I have also been thinking more about my next project and would consider doing something like this:

Or maybe a 3D rendition of an album cover like this:

CMArts Week 5

Hi again,

In Week 5 I began creating more objects for my kitchen. You will see below:

Walls

4-sided pyramid fridge

Surreal Stove/Sink

I didn't add colour to any of these items as I will colourize after I've finished drawing them all and then chuck into Lightwave. I already have some forks and spoons created so next week will just need to make a toaster/microwave etc and I should be able to begin colouring once that is done.

CMArt Week 4

Hello,

Week 4 in CMA we played around with the Magic Bevel plug-in, which surprisingly gives you a fair bit of freedom when designing (well compared to bandsaw form last week anyway). We made a surreal teapot using that tool, learned how to add some pre-installed textures and also played with 3D text.

First off, here is a screenshot of my teapot in Modeler, the handle and spout were created using the magic bevel tool:

This is the rendered version of my teapot with some lizard skin surface texture applied to it:

Next we played around with the Text tool in modeler which seemed simple enough to use, except that I couldnt edit my text on the fly for some reason which seems silly. Anyway I played around with the magic bevel tool on my text and added another texture. Screenshots show the progress in Modeler and rendered model in Lightwave:

So far it seems from what we've learned that creating a surreal kitchen should be simple enough.

In regards to another model for the end of the semester, I would love to do something like this:

Although we'll see how good my skills are before I decide to attempt it.

CMArt Week 3

Hi again,

This week we made a few other models to add to our surreal kitchen. They were a fork, spoon and cup (which I forgot to save).

This is the spoon that I made and if I remember correctly, I used the bevel/extrude (one of the two) to make the hollow part of the spoon. Also used the boolean tool to make the whole in the back of the spoon. Here are some screenshots of how the spoon came out:

This is the rendered version in Lightwave, pretty average looking but you get the gist of it.

Ok so after that we did a fork also. We were introduced to the 'Bandsaw' plug-in, which is a plug in that basically lets you slice/divide your object into several equal/unequal parts (such as the head of a fork). I did a couple of forks, one I just did by manipulating polygons and points by myself and one using the bandsaw plug-in. Here are the rendered versions of both:

My version

Bandsaw version

I think I like my version better of the two anyway. I also made a wine glass which I must have forgotten to save, but i've got the instructions written down somewhere so it's all good.
